Whether it’s a robot in your phone, a smart speaker in your home or a virtual assistant in your car, voice-to-text algorithms are moving into more and more aspects of our lives. For news reporting purposes, we would like to know how well they understand English speakers of all backgrounds.
That’s where you come in: Lend us your voice and we’ll have the machines interpret. It doesn’t matter if you know of or have used the devices or services we're testing. If you can speak, we would like to hear from you.
To participate in our experiment, you'll need to fill in some basic information about yourself, record a series of sentences we’ve compiled and send it to us. Please record somewhere quiet, and try not to giggle at the things we ask you to say.
Thanks! And please share with as many people as possible.
If you know someone who can't access the form through the internet but would still like to participate, please have them call 202-216-9564 and we'll send them a paper copy by mail.
